This hybrid artwork dreams up a space for a distributed aliveness. It takes place inside an unfinished installation of materials and objects. A sensor-embedded suit becomes the interface between a human dancer and the nonhuman actors. The costume enables a sensory metamorphosis as the hands and body grow eyes and tongues. Through the rhythms of touch, a landscape of listening emerges where these interactions are sonified into a real-time composition of psychoactive frequencies.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Dominique Savitri is a French-Indian artist from nowhere in particular. She applies this fluidity to the work of art, imagining it as a space of encounter with ‘knowing-at-large’. Her artworks unfold as sensuous compositions that create thresholds into this more-than-human (un)known.

She has presented work internationally including at the Nakanojo Biennale in Japan, the Isamu Noguchi Room (Keio University) Tokyo, Galerie Wedding in Berlin, the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC); Tai Kwun Centre in Hong Kong; Tate Exchange, London. She collaborated with Astrida Neimanis, author of ‘Bodies of Water’, for Lofoten International Arts Festival 2019. Her public space performances have been commissioned by Chisenhale Dance Space, London and Håb / Word of Warning in Manchester.
Space of the Nameless is her current doctoral research project in the Art Department, Goldsmiths University of London.

Joel Cahen is a sound artist and long term collaborator. He recently launched the Listening Arts Channel.
